Unlocking Creativity: Rituals for Seasoned Woman Artist
Hello there, fellow Accidental ArtMakers! As we navigate the waters of artistry and expression, one thing becomes clear - establishing rituals can be the key to unlocking the treasure trove of our creative potential.
Let me share my own rituals, designed to set the stage for me to get into creating art quickly with the hope and desire to turn into an hour long making art.
1.
It all starts with a few deep breaths, a simple but powerful reminder to center myself and prepare for the creative flow ahead.
Inhale the inspiration,
exhale the doubt
- that's the mantra!
2.
Next, I step into my messy studio.
Brushes jostle for space among scattered stamps and IOD transfer left overs. BUT! I know exactly where everything is.
I let my eyes roam over the chaos, waiting for something to call out to me. I pull my art supplies to my creative space for several minutes.
3.
When I feel that I have all that I need at my fingertips, I the close of the studio door - a signal to the outside world that I am stepping into my realm of imagination.
This physical act of shutting out distractions helps me focus and immerse myself fully in the creative process. Pair that with some soul-stirring music or a captivating book, and the stage is set for artistic alchemy.
4.
Then I tell Siri to let me know when 10 minutes has gone by and I get creating.
Setting a timer for 10 minutes might seem counterintuitive - after all, shouldn't creativity be boundless? But hear me out. This little trick gives me the freedom to explore without pressure. If after 10 minutes I'm not feeling it, no harm done. But more often than not, those initial moments lead to a cascade of ideas and strokes that I wouldn't trade for anything.
Consistently following rituals primes our brains and hearts for the dance of colors, shapes, and emotions. It's about creating a safe space where mistakes are embraced, and experimentation is encouraged. After all, art thrives on spontaneity and the courage to break free from conventions.
Now, let's talk about finding your own creative rituals. Think of it as a personal recipe, with ingredients tailored to your unique artistic taste. Some ideas to consider:
1. **Morning Pages:** Channel your inner Julia Cameron and start your day with freewriting to clear the mental clutter and make room for creativity.
2. **Nature Walks:** Take a cue from Georgia O'Keeffe and immerse yourself in the beauty of the natural world. Let the sights, sounds, and smells ignite your creative spark.
3. **Dance Breaks:** Get your body moving like Yayoi Kusama and let the rhythm guide your brushstrokes. Sometimes, creativity flows best when we let go of inhibitions and just move.
Share your rituals in the comments!
Until next time, keep creating, keep dreaming, and keep blooming into the artists you were always meant to be.
